The owner of a spa in New York City’s West Village was arrested on Monday on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child and unlawful possession of child pornography, authorities said.
The 51-year-old man was arrested at his spa after a child safety officer called to report that he had sexually abused the child, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Police say the boy, who has not been identified, was in the bathroom of the spa at the time.
The victim was in a bathtub when he was sexually assaulted by the man, authorities say.
He was treated for the injuries at a local hospital, the DA’s office said.
A search warrant for the man’s home found child pornography on his computer, a computer hard drive and two USB sticks, authorities told CBS News.
A law enforcement official said he had previously served prison time in California and Massachusetts for lewd acts with a minor, but had been released on parole last year.
He had been under police supervision in New Jersey and New York since 2014 for sexually abusing two children in New Hampshire, authorities confirmed.
The woman who reported the sexual abuse was not identified.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Manhattan DA’s Office said he has not had contact with the boy’s family since the investigation began in May.
“He is cooperating fully with our investigation, and has no knowledge of any of this,” said the spokesperson, who would not comment further.
Police were investigating whether there were other victims, according the spokesperson.
The spa was open for business last year and has been selling hot tubs and saunas for several years, CBS New York reported.
CBS New America’s Nancy Cordes reported that the spa had been offering free massage treatments since last year, but the man was allegedly only offering one treatment.
The man is accused of molesting at least three other children.
Police arrested him last month after a tip led to the investigation.
He has been released from prison on $10,000 bail.
