The NFL is taking legal action against former Philadelphia Eagles running back DeMarco Murray for allegedly assaulting a police officer, according to the league’s lawyers.
The league’s legal team has filed a lawsuit against Murray in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The lawsuit says the former Eagles star kicked and punched an officer during an arrest in the city of Philadelphia on September 29, 2016.
Murray, who is suing the city, was charged with battery, battery on an officer and resisting arrest.
The NFL filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit on Wednesday.
The legal action is separate from a separate lawsuit filed by the NFLPA, which alleges Murray assaulted an NFL security guard during a game in Miami in August.
The city of Miami has yet to respond to the NFL.
In the NFL lawsuit, the NFL says Murray’s actions were “not reasonable in light of the circumstances” surrounding the incident.
Murray’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, told the Associated Press that his client is “deeply saddened by the news.”
